We all know us Portlandians are spoiled rotten when it comes to great food options, but tasting it all is a quick way to break the bank. That's why our favorite time of day is...Happy Hour! Portland is covered by unique neighborhoods that offer endless great menu items, but we are going to focus on what we know best, NW 23rd. Bonus: each of these restaurants are walking distance from the Celine!
1) Fireside Grilled Romaine $6
Half of a romaine heart with perfectly grilled edges covered in lemon-caper dressing, smoked barley, pecorino and radish. Heaven and healthy! Our favorite part is that this dish fits the earthy wooded vibe of the entire place. You know how food taste so much better cooked over the campfire? Image that, but you don't have to sleep on the ground.
2) 23 Hoyt Spicy Mac $7
Jalapeno, calabrian chiles, fontina and a parmesan crust. it's hard to pass up Mac & cheese whenever its on the menu and on these cold, wet, winter days we crave comfort food to warm the belly. Looking for a little extra spice? Grab the Spicy Pear Margarita - tequila, pear juice, lime, habanero tincture!
3) Papa Haydn French Onion Soup $6.75
French onion soup with Gruyere and Parmesan cheeses. Beware this soup is not for the faint of heart, it is very rich but oh so delicious! We recommend grabbing a window seat, get cozy with your warm soup and watch the hustle and bustle of NW 23rd.
4) St. Jack Cervelle de Canut $5
Goat cheese, Fromage Blanc, shallot & garlic. More cheese please! Studies say that cheese can be as additive as drugs and St. Jack on 23rd is not helping our addiction. At $5 we'll take two orders of this delicious cheese dip! Be careful, St. Jack is dangerously close to The Celine you may be easily drawn in by the sweet fumes of French cuisine.
5) The Matador Nachos Grande $5
Cheddar, Monterey Jack, black beans, pico de gallo, quacamole, cilantro-line sour cream. We have saved the best or last, this mountain of nachos will be your new obsession. For $5 you and your date will be full, throw in a couple of margaritas and its the perfect evening.
